Can I add a gap or buffer between bookings?

Understanding preparation time and its impact on bookings

At the moment, Travelnest does not support automatically adding a gap or buffer between bookings, such as a 24 hour preparation period between guest check out and the next check in.

This is a deliberate decision, as adding buffers between bookings can make it much harder for properties to receive bookings.

Why buffers between bookings can reduce bookings

While buffers can feel helpful for preparation, they often create availability gaps that guests cannot actually book.

For example:

If you have a booking from Monday to Thursday, and a guest wants to book Friday to Sunday, a 1 day buffer would block Friday.
This means the property looks available for Friday to Sunday, but in reality it cannot be booked for those three nights.

If you also have a minimum stay, such as three nights, those dates may never be bookable at all.

Over time, this can lead to:

• Fewer available booking combinations
• Gaps in your calendar that never get filled
• Lower visibility and fewer bookings on partner sites

Even though your calendar appears open, guests may be unable to book the dates they want.

How to manage preparation time instead

Rather than adding gaps between bookings, we recommend using a booking notice period.

A booking notice period controls how far in advance a guest must book before arrival, giving you time to prepare without blocking nights between stays.

You can learn how booking notice periods work here:
[Booking notice periods explained]

You can also manually block specific dates in your calendar if you know you need extra time on certain occasions.

Important to know

Booking notice periods control arrival timing, not gaps between stays.
Buffers between bookings are not currently supported on the platform.

This approach helps keep your property as bookable as possible while still giving you time to prepare.
